Welcome to the Volta Career Resource Center (CRC). Our career coaches have been helping lawyers navigate the job search process for more than 30 years. We love what we do, and we’re here to help and support you through this important phase of your career. Your firm has provided you with this service so that you don’t have to make this journey alone, and we encourage you to utilize our resources to the fullest. While we understand that being in transition can be stressful, this time is also a great opportunity for you to reflect on what you really want for yourself and your career – and to formulate a plan to make it happen. We can help you do that. It can also be a time for you to learn new skills (or refresh existing skills) that will help you with your job search and, quite possibly, in your next job as well.
About the CRC
The CRC is the companion website for our one-on-one career counseling and coaching and provides you with all the tools and resources you need to assess your career, evaluate your options and make a successful transition. The CRC has six sections which track the progression of a typical job search. Each section provides advice, exercises and self-assessments, as well as samples, templates and checklists that you can use to support your search.
There's No Single Right Way to Use the CRC
Everyone’s job search is different which is why there is no set path to follow on the CRC. You may know what move you want to make, and in that case, we have you covered. Dive into APPLICATION MATERIALS or SEARCH STRATEGY. Already have interviews lined up? Great! Feel free to go directly to THE INTERVIEW. Not sure where to begin? That’s fine too. We recommend that you start with EVALUATING OPTIONS to help you determine your next best step. And, of course, your career coach can always help point you in the right direction.
Our Recommendations
Even if you think you know exactly what you want to do next, it's still a good idea to skim through EVALUATING OPTIONS. That section covers information on various career tracks, including law firm, in-house, government, academia, judicial clerkships and careers outside law. This may introduce opportunities you may never have known about, nor thought open to you.
We also recommend that you take time to do the assessments and exercises that seem most relevant to you. It may sound cliché but forcing yourself to reflect on and take note of your priorities, goals and values will provide clarity and focus as you proceed toward your end goal.

Talk to Your Volta Career Coach
The CRC is intended to supplement – not replace – the work you do with your career coach. Consistent and regular sessions with your career coach will help to accelerate a successful transition. When you use the CRC, you can save time, as well as make your job search even more effective. By taking advantage of the CRC's resources, you can ensure that any draft materials you share with your career coach are more fully developed. This will allow you to optimize your time with your career coach refining and perfecting your approach.
The result is a shorter and more targeted job search for you.
